About ERCCIS

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are blessed with an exceptional natural environment. Current, relevant and comprehensive information concerning the state of this environment is essential if we are to safeguard it for future generations.

This information is provided by a network of local and national recorders and recording groups, conservation organisations, as well as the general public.

ERCCIS has access to a number of recording software packages that allow the information to be managed logically and these data are linked to a Geographical Information System (GIS) that provides maps overlain with wildlife information. The ability to combine current data with a state of the art mapping system allows ERCCIS to undertake a wide range of projects and data searches on behalf of a variety of customers from local authority planners, environmental consultants and students to enquiries for members of the public. Additionally, larger Projects are carried out. ERCCIS has produced The Isles of Scilly Biodiversity Audit and has computerised a collection of beetle records held by the Royal Cornwall Museum.

The work of ERCCIS can be followed by using this website; additionally ERCCIS produces a biannual Newsletter, Kovadha Kernow, produced in spring and autumn. ERCCIS runs a number of Events and Workshops and holds a number of Publications for sale. ERCCIS works in collaboration with many other conservation organisations to create a wider information network of environmental data as part of The NBN Gateway (National Biodiversity Network Gateway).
