Celebrating Cornwall’s Mammals – from Dormice to Dolphins!
From June 2003 to April 2007 ERCCIS ran a project called Celebrating Cornwall’s Mammals – from dormice to dolphins!
The aim of the project was to raise awareness of mammals in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, engage local groups and the general public in mammal recording and collate records at ERCCIS.
The project was extremely successful with over 3,000 people making records and participating in over 120 different events. Over 60 school sessions were also run for primary schools and home educated groups.
The total number of terrestrial mammal records held at ERCCIS increased by 54% during the project. In addition, ERCCIS received 3,683 marine mammal records, including strandings, equating to 34% of the total number of marine mammal records held.

The project findings report is divided into sections. Each section shows a map of records ERCCIS had received up to April 2007 for the following species Orders:
- Carnivora
- Insectivora
- Lagomorpha
- Rodentia
- Artiodactyla
- Cetacea and Pinnipedia
- Chiroptera
Each species page consists of a map showing the records received and boxes containing information on the number of records per date class, specific sources of records, comments on the national status of the species and comments on the map.
