The Wildlife Information Service (WIS)
aims to answer any enquiry concerning the wildlife found in
the county and is the first point of
contact for anyone wishing to obtain information from
the Records Centre.
The Wildlife Information Service can:
- provide information on the plants and animals in any specified
area throughout Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
- provide wildlife information relating to a specific area
of land.
- offer information on the current status and distribution
of a particular species or habitat, including the marine
environment.
- aid landowners by offering information on management practices,
funding available and the contact addresses for other relevant
organisations.
- pass on a range of generic land management advice from
the Cornwall Wildlife Trust and other organisations.
- knowledgeably answer any wildlife enquiry from a member
of the public by consulting the range of information sources
available to the Information Officer. These sources include
books and journals, advice from local experts and statutory
organisations, as well as the millions of species records
and habitat information surveys.
